Hobgoblin Pie

This is a delicious melt in your mouth hobgoblin steak pie for all the family to enjoy using a low cost cut of steak and ready made puff pastry, making this pie really easy to make.

The Method

Using a medium pan place the oil into the pan and wait until hot, then add your steak making sure you cook until it's just brown.

Add in mushrooms, onions, carrot and leek cook with the steak for around 5 mins stirring every other minute, pour in the hobgoblin and bring to the boil, letting the liquid reduce by half this takes around 10 to 15 minutes. This lets the meat and vegetables absorb the lovely flavour of hobgoblin beer.

Once reduced add in the turmeric, mixed herbs, garlic and water leave on low heat for around one hour until steak is soft.

whisk in the plain flour until smooth making sure there is no lumps if you find the sauce too thin add more flour a little at a time continue cooking for around 20 minutes to cook out the flour whilst stirring regularly.

Now its ready to serve with a puff pastry top or place into a short pastry pie.

300 grams braising steak diced

150 ml hobgoblin beer

1 whole large carrot

1 small onion diced

1/2 leek sliced

8 - 10 button mushrooms sliced

3 tablespoons sunflower oil

1/4 teaspoon turmeric

1/4 teaspoon mixed herbs

a pinch of dried garlic

400 ml water

2 heaped tablespoon plain flour

puff pastry for the top
